Title 5 Analysis

Total Coliform Bacteria, Ammonia, Nitrate, VOC

As part of the state of Massachusetts environmental code, the purpose of Title 5 is "to provide for the protection of public health, safety, welfare and the environment by requiring the proper siting, construction, upgrade, and maintenance of on-site sewage disposal systems."

In plain language this means the Massachusetts environmental code regulates how close your drinking water well can be to your septic system. For complete details about Title 5 please visit the MA DEP website at http://www.mass.gov/dep/brp/wwm/t5about.htm

To verify that sewage from your septic system isn't seeping into your well water you need to test your well water for Total Coliform Bacteria, Ammonia, Nitrate, and VOC.

The drinking water sample must be collected using prepared sample containers. For best results contact the lab to pick up bottles or to have bottles sent to you. A sample kit can be mail to you free of charge with prepaid testing.
